Style: Airnimal bikes are unique in the bike market.
- Most folding bikes use smaller wheels such as 16" or 20". These do not roll so well at speed, and can be bumpy on anything but smooth surfaces.
- Some use the 26" or 700c wheel sizes, but are bulky when folded.
- The Airnimal uses a 24" wheel, which gives you good ride quality and compactness of fold!
- When looking to buy an Airnimal bike we hope the following will help you decide on the best model, and to select the appropriate specifications and accessories.
There are three bikes types in the range - Chameleon - a lightweight frame with the rear triangle supported on the main frame by an elastomer block - whcih gives a small amount of rear shock absorbsion. Add a choice of lightweight wheels and a Shimano road race groupset to complete the package. With limited tyre clearance and a carbon fork the Chameleon is designed for road use, but may be used on mild off-road - such as the easier Sustrans routes. Choose between five models, one flat bar and the rest drop bar. Note - If you take a Bike Fit with us, we are able to configure the bike exactly for you - with a choice of crank length, bar width / reach, stem length and cassette ratios. There may be some cost uplift for this, but it will be less than changing things aftermarket - and ensures the bike fits you perfectly from the start. Please ask before ordering. Joey - Is a heavier (although not heavy) duty machine, built for strength and speed. Capable of track and trail as well as road use, its ideal for commuting, leisure rides, or loaded up with panniers and taken on adventures. The bike can take a range of wider tyres, including a few with off-road suitable tread. Choose between seven models, some flat bar and some with drop bars, some with derailleur gears and some with hub gears. Note - It can be harder to understand the differences between the Joey models, so please feel free to contact us for advice.Again, there are some configureations that can be made following one of our bike fits. Rhino - Has a smaller wheel and comes in on-road or off-road versions. The latter has a front suspension version. The high bottom bracket allows good ground clearance, whilst the rear shock soaks up small bumps. Note - no shop model of this bike carried - to order only. Try outs / Demo bike.
- To try out a bike come to our shop in Tonbridge.
- We understand that this may be a distance for some - but trying the bike out can help you to decide which model to get - and we can then help you configure it to suit you best.
- We always aim to have a Joey on display, but a phone call before you set off to check is a good idea.
- We also have a Chameleon (one of the guvnors' bikes), but this needs to be booked ahead
- We run an appointmant seervice for bike try outs, so please book ahead to come and try an Airnimal bike - so we can ensure a staffer is available to serve you, and that the bikes are avaialable to try. Call 07132 500533, or email os from the Contact page of this site.
General Information.
- Strictly speaking Airnimal bikes are not true "folders", in that a wheel has to be removed to achieve the fold, leaving you with two parts. However the benefits (lighter, much better quality and faster than other large wheel folders, quicker and better over uneven surfaces than smaller wheeled Bromptons) far outweigh having two parts to carry when folded.
- All Airnimal bikes come without pedals - so budget for these.
- There are a range of Airnimal specific accessories, such as racks, soft bags, a hard case, removable pedals and mudguards.
- Preparing the bike for you. At Cycle -ops you will not only get a great bike, but you will have it prepared by a qualified and experienced mechanic. We check and adjust everything on the bike before you collect or we dispatch, ensuring the bike works well - not only to begin with, but ongoing.
- 1st Service. The mechanical parts on a bike bed in with early use, and you will need these checked and possible adjusted after a period. This will vary, but is usually between 100 to 300 miles. It is vital for the ongoing good function of the bike, and to fully validate your warranty that this is done. We do this free of charge for you at our shop - please contact us to arrange.
- If you are too far away to be able to make the journey, we suggest you use a reputable shop near you- which will make a charge for this service. Look for Shimano Service Centre status - or otherwise contact us for a suggested shop in your area.
Frame only options - if you are considering building a bike from scratch, we strongly suggest you buy the wheels as well - as there are very few rims available in the right size, whilst Airnimal wheels are hand-built and good value. Ordering an Airnimal
