Day time running lights

Why run with Lights During the Day you ask …

When cars started to run with lights during the day they reduced accidents by 25%. And motorcycles also saw a 13% drop too. So to have Bicycle Daytime Running Lights just make sense and all existing research indicates that the single best way for a cyclist to increase the likelihood of being seen by a driver is to use a flashing light that is daylight visible.
So what exactly makes a light visible in the day, Bontrager’s Daytime Running Lights have unique properties that allow them to be seen during the day. Creating a light visible in the daylight requires intentional design. By directing or amplifying output Bontrager can intensify the beam or extend its range. Without this, a light may appear bright, but will not be noticed in the day.Using a flashing rear light in the day makes you 2.4x more noticeable than with no lights at all, and 1.4x than in steady mode. The Bontrager Daytime Running Lights use an interruptive flash pattern to increase the notice ability, specifically in daylight conditions.8 out of 10 cycling accidents occur during the day. Daytime Running Lights are the single most effective product to help increase your notice ability during the day.

Daytime Running Lights are brighter than what you would use at night in order to give drivers more reaction time. The Bontrager Daytime Running Lights are detectable from a greater distance than other lights, from ¼ mile to over 2km away in daylight conditions given the specific model.

Here at Cycle-ops Tonbridge We have the full Bontrager Daytime Running Light range in stock and also available to demo.

The New Domane SLR – Trek have raised the stakes again!

The New Domane SLR – Trek have raised the stakes again! Sitting alongside the existing 4, 5 and 6 series models, this new higher-end Domane has taken the successful Domane concept and made innovative and practical changes – to give you a monumental advantage!

The Seat tube now has “adjustable ride tuning” (so it can be set up as stiff as an Emonda road race bike, through to more compliant that the existing Domane), and an ISO decoupler has been added at the front end (to balance the front and rear compliance and handling). Greater tyre clearance is built in.

A great all purpose bike – use for road racing through to Cobbles and Gravel Track riding.

Available in two models. In either Calliper or Disc versions. Builds possible from (a limited number of) stock frames.

Demo Bikes in stock in 54, 56 and 58. Call or email to arrange a consultation and demo.

Days getting longer….

As the days get longer, and the weather improves, we all think more about the season to come and start to get out more (another six weeks and the turbo will be just for fitness maintenance on wet days, or for specific training sessions).

Its time to make sure the bike is ready for the season – and maybe to get a little upgrade done? (Carbon handlebars, lighter shoes, summer tyres put on – maybe even some nice spanky new lightweight wheels?)

Whatever – we are here at Cycle-ops to help you make the right choices, and to get you all set for the Summer to come.

Right now Jake has got some Specials in the workshop – and we are having a major Clearout and Stock Reduction underway, so bargains to be had (check out the Sale categories on the site.

PS – Did I mention getting a new bike!!!!????

Days drawing in…

As the days get shorter we all need to think about lights and some warmer clothing. I myself got caught out needing another layer the other evening, and lacking a good-enough front light – after a  puncture and too long a stop at a pub made it later than I intended ( a bit self inflicted I know!)……. So armed with a new Bontrager ion700 front light and a new X-bionic Leg, Arm warmers and a Gillet I’m now ready for anything…. The X Bionic clothing is a bit of a treat, but its such good kit -and having ridden the bibs and jersey for a season I know how well it works at regulating temperature. The performance and comfort benefits are well worth the investment – and after a recent price “correction” (to harmonise with Euro pricing, as its made in Italy – and Swiss designed) its not much more than good quality makes like Pearl Izumi anyway….. Trying is believing – so ask us about our Demo kit….. Simon…… New Clothing from Bontrager and X Bionic now in stock, and new Lights from Bontrager, Cateye, USE and Lezene now all in stock at the shop.
