About Us

Based in Tonbridge, Kent, Cycle Ops has grown rapidly since birth to become one of the premier cycle shops in the region.

Location, and our customers

As well as serving our local area of Tonbridge, Edenbridge, Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and Paddock Wood, we have customers who come to us from as far afield as Ashford, Canterbury, The Medway Towns, Orpington, Bromley and Croydon in South London, Hastings, Crowborough, and East Grinstead in Sussex and Surrey and even from over the water from Essex.

These people tell us they made the journey in the first place to see one of the many products we stock, as their local bike shop often only has basic stuff and a limited range of bikes on display, but that they then continue to make the journey due to the comprehensive range of clothing and accessories we stock.

Many become Club Card members, and we continue to also serve them by mail order, either by telephone but increasingly through this website and its Secure Server for holding credit card details.

Our workshop is also popular with those from further afield, and we go the extra mile wherever possible to turn bikes around to save them a return journey – this is especially true with any 1st services to new bikes.

We continue to work hard to ensure a visit to our shop is worth the trip, stocking up to the minute kit, specialist items and a comprehensive range of Scott, Trek, Brompton, Airnimal and Dawes.

Although we carry good stocks, it’s well worth phoning or emailing first to check we have what you want in stock – it can then be reserved for you on our collection shelf.

The Shop

"It's a Tardis of a shop…" a customer exclaimed the other day, and this probably best describes the place.

The small High Street frontage and the tiny Bank Street door belie the cavernous interior, with over 3,000 square feet of bike displays, walls of accessories and the modern "open-to-view" workshop.

We stock bikes from top brands, ranging from pavement cycles to top end road and mountain bikes, and a wide range of accessories from leading brands.

With over 100 bike models on display and probably the widest range of accessories you will see in a bike shop – we try to give you plenty of choice.

We also allow people to try bikes out, and we have a range of high end Demo bikes that can be hired for the day and given a really thorough try out.

The Workshop

Our modern, open- to- view workshop has three work stations, a specialist wheel building stand, and is fully equipped with all the tools needed to enable us to work on any bike, frame or sub-assembly.

Our three dedicated mechanics have a wealth of know-how and experience of cycle repair accumulated over many years, and our “Shimano Service Centre” status assures you of our quality and expertise.PS. We are now rated as the 14th most qualified shop in the UK!

Look at the Workshop page for more information.

Hire Bikes.

If you want to hire a bike, we have a Hire Bike fleet of comfort MTBs from Trek and a number of kids bike, trailers, child seats and taggalongs.

The Tonbridge to Penshurst Cycle Route starts almost from our Bank Street door, and makes a great ride of about a ten mile round trip - or just kick about in the Country Park with the kids.

Make a day of it and spend some time in Tonbridge, enjoying The Sports Ground, Swimming Pool, miniature Steam Railway and the medieval Castle.

If you want to hire a bike and are in London it’s only a 40 minute train journey from Charing Cross or London Bridge, or you can easily drive to us via the A21 or M25. It’s only a short walk from the railway station, and there is plenty of local parking otherwise - which is FREE on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Why not make a short break of it, by booking a B&B or hotel and staying out for a night or two?

For more local people our bike and cycle hire point is easy to get to by road or rail from Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone, The Medway Towns, Ashford and Dover in Kent, Hasting and Crowborough in East Sussex, and Reigate, East Grinstead and Croydon in Surrey.

And of course we are open 7 days and most Bank Holidays, so we make hiring a bike in Kent, trying out the Penshurst Cycle Route, or exploring further afield, as easy as we can. Always phone or email first to ensure bikes are available.

Look at the Bike Hire page for more information and Hire Rates.

Open Times.

We aim to be open when you need us, so unlike many bike shops we are open 7 days a week and most Bank Holidays.

See the Open Times on our contact page – times vary throughout the year according to the season.
